Egypt was a very good trip. Nice people, nice places, great thinks to do and good water visibility. Planning our trip, we had two flight options from Bucharest – either direct on Air  Cairo or via Sharm el Sheikh on WizzAir .

History

Egypt’s story begins along the Nile over 5,000 years ago, where pharaohs built temples, ports, and lighthouses that later sank due to earthquakes, subsidence, and tsunamis. Today, many of these ruins lie just meters below the surface, especially around Alexandria, where divers can explore submerged palaces and ancient architecture.

At the same time, Egypt’s strategic location between Africa, the Middle East, and Europe made the Red Sea one of the busiest shipping corridors in history. Over centuries, storms, reefs, and wars sent dozens of ships to the seafloor—creating the famous wreck‑diving circuit stretching from Sharm El Sheikh to Safaga.

Egypt is unique because its history didn’t stay on land. Geological shifts sank ancient cities, and centuries of maritime traffic filled the Red Sea with wrecks. Today, divers can experience:

  • Ancient palaces at snorkel depth
  • WWII cargo ships frozen in time
  • Coral‑covered merchant vessels
  • Marine parks protecting reefs shaped by millennia of navigation and trade

This makes Egypt one of the few places where you can dive pharaonic ruins in the morning and WWII wrecks in the afternoon.
